"A Lady asked an old street vendor: "How much do you sell your eggs for?" The old man replied "0.50¢ an egg, madam.” The Lady responde, “I'll take 6 eggs for $2.00 or I'm leaving.” The old salesman replied, “Buy them at the price you want, Madam. This is a good start for me because I haven't sold a single egg today and I need this to live.”

She bought her eggs at a bargain price and left with the feeling that she had won. She got into her fancy car and went to a fancy restaurant with her friend. She and her friend ordered what they wanted. They ate a little and left a lot of what they had asked for. So they paid the bill, which was $150. The ladies gave $200 and told the fancy restaurant owner to keep the change as a tip.

This story might seem quite normal to the owner of the fancy restaurant, but very unfair to the egg seller. The question it raises is; 

Why do we always need to show that we have power when we buy from the needy? 

And why are we generous to those who don't even need our generosity?

We once read somewhere that a father used to buy goods from poor people at a high price, even though he didn't need the things. Sometimes he paid more for them. His children were amazed. One day they asked him "why are you doing this dad?" The father replied: "It's charity wrapped in dignity.”

I know that most of you will not share this message, but if you are one of the people who have taken the time to read this far... 

Then this message of attempted "humanisation" will have gone one step further in the right direction."

A violinist - True Event

A violinist played for 45 minutes in the New York subway. A handful of people stopped, a couple clapped, and the violinist raised about $30 in tips.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. In that subway, Joshua played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. And two days before he played in the subway, with again not many people appreciating his skills .

Joshua Bell sold out a Boston theatre, and the seats averaged about $100.

The experiment proved that the extraordinary in an ordinary environment does not shine and is so often overlooked and undervalued.

There are brilliantly talented people everywhere who aren’t receiving the recognition and reward they deserve. But once they arm themselves with value and confidence and remove themselves from an environment that isn’t serving them, they thrive and grow.

Your gut is telling you something. Listen to it if it’s telling you where you are isn’t enough!

a corn former

There was a farmer who grew excellent quality corn. Every year he won the award for the best grown corn. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. “How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?” the reporter asked.

“Why sir,” said the farmer, “Didn’t you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn.”

So is with our lives... Those who want to live meaningfully and well must help enrich the lives of others, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.

smart man and a smater judge

Once upon a time in an old Japanese village, there was a smart man who owned a well, but he didn't use it, so he decided to sell it to a nearby farmer. One day, when he passed by and saw the farmer pumping water from the well for cooking etc., the smart man immediately stopped him and did not allow him to pump water from the well.

"I only sold you the well, I didn't sell you the water. Therefore, you cannot take water from this well," the smart man spoke up.

The farmer was very sad and didn't know what to do. He had bought the well, but he hadn't paid for the water from the well. Now the well was full of water, but he couldn't use it, while his whole family and livestock all needed clean water from this well.

After thinking for a long time about how to resolve the issue with the smart man, the farmer decided to bring it up to the district court, hoping to get justice. At the court, the farmer recounted the story from beginning to end, hiding nothing, in order to get justice for his family.

The district judge called the smart man up and asked, "Why don't you let him use the water in the well? Didn't you sell the well?"

"Well, your honor, I only sold the well to this farmer, I didn't sell him the water in it. Therefore, he has no right to take water from my property. Now, if he wants to take water, he has to pay more to buy the water," the smart man replied, firmly believing in his argument.

The district judge looked at the smart man, smiled slightly, and replied, "Oh, you make a good point. However, when you sold the well to this farmer, the well became his property, and the water in the well is still your property. So, you have no right to store water in the farmer's well anymore."

"Now there are only two options: One is that you have to pay the farmer to rent the well for water storage. Two is that you have to remove all the water from the well immediately," the judge looked up at the smart man and asserted firmly.

The smart man bowed his head sadly, not knowing what to do to justify his actions. He had been harmed by his own intelligence.

That's why in life, no matter how smart you are, there will always be others who are smarter than you.

முட்டாள் வேலைக்காரன்

ஓர் ஊரில், வணிகன் ஒருவன் இருந்தான். பணக்காரனான அவன் சரியான கஞ்சன். எனவே, முட்டாளான ஒருவனை வேலைக்காரனாக வைத்திருந்தான். வணிகன்

ஒருநாள் அவனை அழைத்து, "நம் வண்டியை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு பனங்காட்டுக்குப் போ... அங்கே பலர் பனைமரங்களை வெட்டி வண்டியில் ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு இருப்பர். அதேபோல் நீயும் மரங்களை வெட்டிக்கொண்டு வா!'' என்றான்.

அப்படியே அவனும் வண்டியை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டு சென்றான். அங்கே சிலர் மரங்களை வெட்டி வீழ்த்திக் கொண்டு இருந்தனர். சிலர், கீழே கிடக்கும் மரங்களை முயன்று வண்டியில் தூக்கிப் போட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். இதைப் பார்த்ததும் வேலைக்காரனால் சிரிப்பை அடக்க முடியவில்லை.

"என்ன இவர்கள் எல்லாரும் முட்டாள்களாக இருக்கின்றனர். மரம் வெட்டும் போதே அதற்குக் கீழாக வண்டியை வைத்தால் மரம் அதில் சரியாக விழும். வீனாக ஒரு முறை பூமியில் கிடக்கும் மரத்தை வண்டியில் ஏற்ற வேண்டாமே!' என்று நினைத்தான்.

"என் திட்டத்தை இவர்கள் கண் முன்னாலேயே செய்து காட்டி, நான் எத்தகைய அறிவாளி என்பதைப் புரிய வைப்பேன்' என்ற எண்ணத்தில், தான் வெட்ட வேண்டிய பெரிய மரத்தை தேர்ந்தெடுத்தான்.

கோடாரியால் அந்தப் பனை மரத்தின் அடிப்பகுதியைப் பாதி அளவு வெட்டி முடித்தான். பிறகு, அந்த மரம் விழக்கூடிய இடத்திற்கு நேராக மாட்டுடன் வண்டியை நிறுத்தினான். மரம் வெட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்த மற்றவர்கள், "ஏன் இவன் இப்படிப் பைத்தியக்கார வேலை செய்கிறான்!' என்று நினைத்தனர்.

சிறிது நேரத்தில் அந்த மரம், "சடசட'வென்ற சத்தத்துடன் வண்டியின் மீது வேகமாக விழுந்தது. அவ்வளவுதான், வண்டி தூள் தூளானது. கால் உடைந்து குற்றுயிரும் குலை உயிருமாக மாடு துடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தது. இதைக்கண்டு அவன் திகைத்து விட்டான். தன் திட்டத்தில் என்ன குறை என்று அவனால் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை.

"என் திட்டம் நல்ல திட்டம் தான். வண்டிக்குத்தான் வலிமை இல்லாமல் போய்விட்டது' என்ற முடிவுடன் வீடு திரும்பினான். நடந்ததை அறிந்த வணிகன், முட்டாளாக இருக்கிறாயே! இப்படி செய்யலாமா? என்று வேலைக்காரனைத் திட்டினான்.

சில நாட்கள் சென்றன. திடீரென்று அந்த ஊரில் மண்ணெண்ணெய் பஞ்சம் வந்துவிட்டது.

"தன்னிடம் இருக்கும் இருபத்தைந்து பீப்பாய் எண்ணெயைப் பதுக்கி வைத்தால் நிறைய லாபம் கிடைக்கும்!' என்று நினைத்தான் வணிகன். உடனே வேலைக்காரனை அழைத்து, ""கடையில் இருக்கும் மண்ணெண்ணெய் எல்லாவற்றையும் இன்றிரவு நம் தோட்டத்தில் பள்ளம் தோண்டிப் புதைத்துவிடு. யாருக்கும் தெரியக் கூடாது!'' என்றான்.

வணிகன் சொன்னபடியே, நள்ளிரவில் பெரிய பள்ளம் தோண்டினான் வேலைக்காரன். ஒவ்வொரு பீப்பாயாக உருட்டிச் சென்று அதிலுள்ள எண்ணெயைப் பள்ளத்தில் ஊற்றினான். இப்படியே எல்லாப் பீப்பாய்களில் உள்ள எண்ணெயையும் ஊற்றி முடித்தான்.

இப்போது அவன் உள்ளத்தில், "இந்தக் காலிப் பீப்பாய்களை என்ன செய்வது? இது குறித்து முதலாளி ஒன்று சொல்லவில்யலையே!' என்ற சிந்தனை எழுந்தது.

"சரி, அவரையே கேட்டு விடுவோம்' என்ற எண்ணத்தில் நன்றாகத் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த வணிகனை எழுப்பினான்.

"ஐயா! நீங்கள் சொன்னபடி மண்ணெண்ணெயைப் பள்ளம் தோண்டிப் புதைத்துவிட்டேன். காலி பீப்பாய்களை என்ன செய்வது என்று கேட்டான். வணிகனுக்குச் சிறிது சிறதாக உண்மை புலப்படத் தொடங்கியது. ஐயோ, "மண்ணெண்ணெய் எல்லாம் பேச்சே!' என்று அலறிய வணிகன், அன்றே அவனை வேலையிலிருந்து நீக்கினான்.".

உங்கள் தகுதி என்ன...?

ஒரு பெரிய ஆலமரத்தின் அடியில் துறவி ஒருவர் அமர்ந்திருந்தார். 

அவருக்கு கண் பார்வை கிடையாது. 

அப்போது அந்த வழியாக வந்த ஒருவன், "ஏய் கிழவா, யாராவது இந்த வழியாக சென்றார்களா?" என்று மரியாதையின்றி அதிகாரத்துடன் கேட்டான். அதற்கு அந்த துறவி "அப்படி யாரும் சென்றதாக தெரியவில்லை" என்று சொன்னார். 

சிறிது நேரம் கழித்து, மற்றொருவன் வந்து "ஐயா, இதற்கு முன் யாராவது சென்றார்களா?" என்று கேட்டார். 

அதற்கு அத்துறவியோ "ஆம், சற்று முன் இதே கேள்வியைக் கேட்டு சென்றான்" என்றார். 

மீண்டும் சிறிது நேரம் கழித்து இன்னொருவன் வந்தான். 

அவனும் துறவியிடம் "வணங்குகிறேன், துறவியாரே. இதற்கு முன் இந்த வழியாக யாராவது செல்லும் சப்தம் கேட்டதா?" என்று பணிவுடன் கேட்டான்.

 

உடனே துறவி "மன்னரே, வணக்கம். 

இந்த வழியாக முதலில் ஒரு வீரன் சென்றான், அடுத்ததாக ஓர் அமைச்சர் சென்றார். இருவருமே நீங்கள் கேட்ட கேள்வியைக் கேட்டுச் சென்றனர்." என்று சொன்னார்.

அப்போது ஆச்சரியத்துடன் மன்னர் "துறவியாரே, உங்களுக்குத் தான் பார்வை இல்லையே. பின்னர் எப்படி முதலில் வீரனும், அடுத்ததாக அமைச்சர் என்றும் சரியாக சொன்னீர்கள்" என்று கேட்டான். 

அதற்கு துறவி "இதை அறிவதற்கு பார்வை தேவையில்லை. அவரவர் பேசுவதை வைத்தே, அவர் யார், அவரது தகுதி என்ன என்பதை தெரிந்து கொள்ளலாம்" என்று சொல்லி, "முதலில் வந்தவன் சற்றும் மரியாதையின்றியும், அடுத்து வந்தவரின் பேச்சில் அதிகாரமும், உங்களது பேச்சில் பணிவும் தென்பட்டது" என்று பொறுமையாக விளக்கிக் கூறினார்.

அரசன் அறிவித்த போட்டி

ஒரு அரசன் போட்டி ஒன்றை அறிவித்தான்.கோட்டைக் கதவுகளைக் கைகளால் திறந்து தள்ள வேண்டும். வெற்றி பெற்றால் நாட்டின் ஒரு பகுதி தானமாக வழங்கப்படும். தோற்றால் தோற்றவனின் கைகள் வெட்டப்படும். மக்கள் பலவாறாக யோசித்து, பயந்து யாரும் போட்டியில் கலந்து கொள்ளவில்லை.

ஒரே ஒரு இளைஞன் மட்டும் போட்டியில் கலந்து கொள்ள முன் வந்தான். 'போட்டியில் தோற்றுவிட்டால் கைகளை வெட்டி விடுவார்கள். உன்னுடைய எதிர்காலம் என்னவாகும்?' என்றார்கள். அவன் சொன்னான், 'ஐயா வென்றால் நானும் ஒரு அரசன், தோற்றால் கைகள் தானே போகும், உயிரில்லையே' என்று கூறி விட்டு கோட்டைக் கதவை இளைஞன் தள்ளினான். என்ன அதிசயம்! கதவு சட்டெனத் திறந்து கொண்டது. ஏனென்றால், கோட்டை கதவுகளில் தாழ்பாள் போடப்படவில்லை. திறந்து தான் இருந்தது.

பல பேர் இப்படி தான் இருக்கிறார்கள். தோற்று விடுவோமோ, எதையாவது இழந்து விடுவோமோ என்று எதற்கும் முயற்சிக்காமலேயே விட்டு விடுகிறார்கள்.

அனைவரும் அறிந்த 'முயல்-ஆமை' கதையில் முயலின் தோல்விக்கு 'முயலாமையே' காரணம்.
